Henry Cabot Lodge
Henry Cabot lodge was a
politician born on May 12th, 1850 in Boston, Massachusetts. He
graduated from Harvard in 1872. He was the first person to graduate from
Harvard with a PhD in political science. He was also the first ever senate
leader. Henry Lodge was a republican. Lodge believed the United States needed a
strong military to have any relations with other countries. Lodge was in favor
of the United States joining World War I with the allied powers. Lodge is
famous for attacking Woodrow Wilson because he thought Wilson did not let the
US have a large enough military. He claimed Woodrow Wilson wasn’t standing for
our country and people heard Henry Cabot Lodge. People heard Henry Cabot Lodge
because he was part of the United States government for many years. He started
as President of the pro tempore of the United States senate in 1912. Then he
moved on to the first US senate majority leader in 1920 until 1924. He was the chairman
of the Senate Committee of Foreign Relations at one time. Lodge was the senate
of Massachusetts from 1893-1924 and finished his career as a member of the
house of representative from Massachusetts. All throughout his career, Lodge
attacked President Wilson. He attacked Wilson’s 14 points calling them “weak.”
As chairman of the senate of Foreign Relations he led the fight against the League
of Nations. Woodrow Wilson proposed this just at the end of World War I. Lodge
rejected the League of Nations and strongly disliked President Wilson. Henry
Cabot Lodge was the main contributor in the effort to stop the Treaty of Versailles.
The Treaty was never signed by the United States.
