President Woodrow Wilson
President Wilson worked to keep the United States out of the war. He was not taken seriously because of his remarks toward the nation. Theodore Roosevelt who was a known Republican figure refused to believe that the U.S. army was strong enough for war. Secretary of state William Bryan resigned because he felt Woodrow Wilson purposely ignored him. Like William Bryan, the Central powers disagreed with Woodrow Wilson with whom he was trying to make peace with. In 1916 he tried to make peace, but was unsuccessful because he provoked Germany to stay in the war.
