Treaty of Versailles
The signing of the Treaty of Versailles took place
after the Peace Conference of 1919. It was signed on June 28, 1919 between
Germany and their enemies France, Britain, and Italy. The Treaty of Versailles
was official documentation that Germany started the war and proof that they had
no choice but to pay for all expenses in World War I. During the Peace
Conference negotiations were made that started the Treaty of Versailles. Germany
did not take part in the decision and was forced to sign it. The United States
had little to do with the Treaty of Versailles and made peace with Germany in 1921.
Woodrow Wilson agreed with Treaty of Versailles but his view was different than
the rest of America.
Treaty of Saint-Germain-en-Laye
Its purpose was to separate Austria
and Hungary. It was signed by the Allies and Austria in Paris on September 10,
1919. Czechoslovakia,
Poland, and Hungary became independent territories. Austria’s military was
limited to fewer than 30,000 men after Hungary was no longer part of one large
army. Austria protested against Germany for disturbing peace and never paid
military debts.
Treaty of Neuilly-sur-Seine
Signed November 27, 1919 as
a peace treaty between Bulgaria and the Allied Powers. Bulgaria gave land to
Greece and Yugoslavia and 300,000 of their people were sent over. Bulgaria’s army
was forced to be reduced to 20,000 people.
Treaty of Trianon
Signed on June 4, 1920
between Hungary and the Allied powers. Hungary lost two thirds of their former
land, Czechoslovakia
was given Slovakia, Austria took over western Hungary.Yugoslavia, Romania, and
Italy received minor territories. Hungary army was limited to 35,000 men.
Treaty of Sevres
A
piece treaty signed on August 10, 1920 between the Ottoman Empire and the
Allied powers. As a result of the treaty, the Ottoman Empire no longer existed
and Turkey took over North America. In 1923 the Treaty of Lausanne replaced the
Treaty of Sèvres.
Treaty of Lausanne
Signed
in Switzerland on July 24, 1923. Turkey wasn’t a separate territory anymore but
recovered the Aegean islands, Smyrna district, and kept full control over its
territories.
